Natural gas supply cuts by Russia is a wake-up call to Europe to strengthen energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts
The recent shut-off of natural gas supplies by Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom is strongly undermining the public European trust in an otherwise reliable trade partner. It will also cause major recasts on the EU's energy security which is highly dependent on fossil fuels imports from Russia. It’s time for the EU to invest in domestic clean energy sources and improve energy efficiency, says WWF.

Discards to be included in fisheries quotas - says WWF
Brussels, Belgium – The European Union should apply a system of fisheries quotas that takes into account not only fish landed, but also caught and thrown overboard, said WWF at the conclusion of the European Fisheries Council in Brussels. Quotas for fisheries decided today by EU Ministers are set to fail fish stocks, if they do not ponder the real amount of life taken from the sea.

By the end of 2008, over 60% cod have been discarded in the North Sea (about 20% more than in 2007) . Some European fisheries, like sole or Nephrops have totally unacceptable bycatch and discard levels of over 60%.
